COTTON ON MCR EXHIBITION: IN MANCHESTER

IN MANCHESTER: COTTON ON MCR EXHIBITION

Cotton On MCR is super excited to be hosting their first stand alone exhibition. Following a successful open call, we have over 40+ Greater Manchester artists exhibiting in ‘In Manchester’. Launching to the public on Saturday 24th April to Monday 3rd May, ‘In Manchester’ will be held at the amazing Saul Hay Gallery. This exhibition is all about showing everyone who is ‘in Manchester.’

When curating ‘In Manchester’ we wanted to make sure we had a huge mix of artists, from hobbyists, students, graduates, amateurs and professionals alike. One of our key values at Cotton On MCR is to show that art can be for everyone, and this exhibition really does embody that. We have paintings, photography, sculptures, textiles, drawings and artists such as With artists such as Sam Owen Hull, Stefanie Trow, Carlos Ferg and Jason Carr just to name a few. It’s cliché, but there really is something for everyone (I’m sorry, I had to say it!)

This is the re-opening exhibition at Saul Hay Gallery, which had to close it’s doors following the 3rd national lockdown. Together, we want to show that galleries are open to all, and aren’t always this ridiculous, elitist type place. By making sure that ‘In Manchester’ has a mix of all types of artists, we put everyone on the same level playing field. It doesn’t matter if you have been making art for 10 years or 10 minutes, if your work is good – it’s good! Manchester has some amazing and wonderful artists, and this exhibition is our way of showing the public a snippet of the incredible talent we have here in Greater Manchester.

Also, not to forget, we will be running a ‘best piece’ competition! The winning artist will have their own solo exhibition with us here at Cotton On MCR, plus other amazing prizes. This will be judged by an amazing panel (if I do say so myself) including:

Ian Hay

He is a judge and sponsor of the Saul Hay Emerging Artist Prize for The New Light Art Exhibition and was a judge for the Greater Manchester Arts Prize 2019. Ian is a Trustee of the Friends of the Whitworth. Ian says; ‘Domino and all the team at Cotton On MCR are truly dedicated to the promotion of the visual arts in Manchester. That is why we are delighted and excited to be the partner venue for their first ever open call exhibition.’

Ian Rayer-Smith

Ian Rayer-Smith

Contemporary British Artist.

Ian Rayer-Smith is an international artist who is based here in Manchester. His fan base is huge with over 28k followers on Instagram. Ian says, ‘I think of my paintings as posing a series of questions rather than providing overt statements or narrative pointers towards any clear kind of answer. There would be no joy or satisfaction in doing that. Instead, the process is more about showing my search for something which, maybe, I hope I’ll never find.’

Liam Hopkins

Liam Hopkins

He founded Manchester based contemporary creative studio Lazerian in 2006. Lazerian is a multidisciplinary studio who create large scale artworks, public art installations, bespoke sculptural commissions as well as furniture, interiors and brand promotional objects. Known for merging traditional hand craft techniques combined with modern cutting edge technologies, Lazerian’s work varies in materials and processes with pieces created using everything from paper to metals.

Domino Panton-Oakley

Domino Panton-Oakley

Founder of Cotton On MCR.

I launched Cotton On MCR in 2017 as a way for me to get back into the art scene after graduating Uni. Now three years in, Cotton On MCR has become a great base for artists and art fans alike to see what’s going on in our amazing city. We host multiple events and share those of others too. As well as a Fine Art degree, I have curated my own exhibition in the past, organised art fairs and workshops and review exhibitions which I write about on the blog.

You can also sponsor our event (and future events too)! We would love to partner with other Manchester based brands to help make this exhibition one to remember. Find out more on the link below.

So get your butt down to Saul Hay Gallery from Saturday 24th April to come and see the incredible work that is ‘In Manchester’.
