Where to buy Arty Christmas Gifts 2020

I think this year could do with a big fat injection of some Christmas spirit! It may be different this year but hey, let’s make the most of it shall we? There’s still Christmas films on, you can make mulled wine and fancy hot chocolates at home, still put up that tree and share the Christmas joy by sharing Christmas presents.

But saying that, this article may be a tricky one to write, as who knows what shops and events will be open and on! I could write this article and tomorrow, everything could change. As I write, we are currently in a nationwide lockdown, set to be reviewed on December 2nd. But if you are anything like me, you want to spread the cost of Christmas and buy some (if not all) of your gifts this month! So I think the best thing to do is to focus on those arty shops that have an online options. Here is our list of arty places to buy Christmas gifts this year.

Manchester Craft and Design Centre

Here’s an online pop-up event for you all. Manchester Craft and Design Centre has had to close it’s doors with the new lockdown, but they are moving their products online. This Friday (13th November) they are hosting a night of shopping, selling the work of their makers via Instagram. Head over to their Instagram page and search for the hashtag #MCDCPopUp, where you can browse a mix of gifts from fashion, accessories, homeware and more. They are encouraging people to give the gift of handmade products this year, and from local sellers too! What more could you want from your Christmas shopping?

Cass Art

You may all heard of, or even been into the Cass Art shop, but have you ever considered this as a place to buy Christmas gifts? I hadn’t, until now! Not only do they have a humongous list of art supplies for all your artist needs, they also have a huge range of gift ideas too. There’s plenty of products to help you and your loved ones get creative, from sketch books, to paints, pencils, from basic packs to more advanced sets and then some. Head to their Christmas page for a range of luxury gifts, gifts under £25 and vouchers too. Plenty on there for all art fans and hobbyists alike.

We literally love this shop here in the Cotton On MCR office. It’s quirky, jazzy, unique and fun. Gutted we may not get to browse their colourful shelves this month, but instead, we will be browsing their colourful website. With a huge, eclectic mix of stocking fillers, decorations and present ideas, this shop is very much for you arty folk out there. They also stock a ton of products from local Manchester artists, jewelers and designers, so again, keeping it local. Definitely a great shop for Christmas gifts, even if you end up spending more on yourself than you do your loved ones!

Manchester Art Gallery Shop

Manchester Art Gallery – Shop

So yeah, the gallery is closed this month – stupid Covid – but you can still visit the gallery shop online! You can get a whole bunch of arty goodness, including art prints, calendars, diaries, notebooks, kids toys, art books, stationary, eco-friendly products, socks and more. That’s right, I said socks! Is it even Christmas if you don’t receive some socks in your stocking? I love a gallery shop and the same with Manchester Art Gallery’s online shop, there really is a great mix for art fans, hobbyists and artists alike.

If you haven’t popped into Magma, then what have you been doing? Situated in Northern Quarter, this is an electric art-come-book shop. Yes the shop itself may be closed, but their online edition doesn’t disappoint. You can buy art prints from local artists and of Manchester scenes too – to remind us what the outside looks like! There are so many amazing books on sale as well, from fashion, graphics, fonts, art, music and more, plus independent publications too. You can even buy a Frida Kahlo themed jigsaw puzzle, perfect to do for the arty family after your big Christmas meal.

Fred Aldous

With online shopping categories named, ‘Art Shop, Craft Shop, Model Shop, Gift Shop, Haberdashery and More’ – there really is something for everyone. We love the cross-stitch clock and candle making set on sale. You can also purchase everything you need to make your own jewellery! Plus a ton of art books, homeware and accessories, there is so much to choose from, pretty much everything but the kitchen sink. Another great place to shop for artists, art fans, hobbyists and those that just want to get creative and give something a go.

Cotton On MCR

Cotton On MCR Workshops

Shameless self plug coming – well, if we can’t promote ourselves on our own website then what can we do? We offer such a huge mix of arts and crafts workshops for adults, from painting workshops, collage, embroidery, make your own brooch, build your own clay pot or sew your own tote bag and more. We also offer gift vouchers too, so you can let your loved ones pick their own workshop to take part in. Our workshops have been postponed to the new year, so this is a great present to buy for people now! For your loved ones that could do with a bit of ‘me time’, who need a night off from the kids, who want to pick up a new hobby in the new year, or develop a hobby they may have started during lockdown, head to our workshop page and get gifting.

Sign up to our newsletter to receive a 10% off voucher to use against any purchase of our workshops. Please fill in the form below.
